Aviators Give Up Homers, Lose

Wednesday, August 01, 2018

The Lafayette Aviators took a big loss to the Danville Dans at home Wednesday, 10-3.

Lafayette scored early for once, notching the night’s first run in the 1st inning via Kam Smith double. The score held at 1-0 for five full innings as starting pitcher Connor Schultz played a solid game, striking out six batters and giving up just one run over 5.2 innings pitched.

Then in the 6th, a switch flipped for Danville.

Blasting a three-run homer with two outs gave them their first lead of the night. Then, after putting the next two batters on base, they struck gold with another three-run homer to move the game closer to blowout territory.

The Aviators would not answer with their own scoring in the bottom of the 6th, and the Dans would continue their offensive onslaught. In the top of the 7th Danville put up yet another home run, this one adding two runs to their tally and moving the game’s score to 9-1.

By the time their offense came back alive, scoring twice in the 7th, the Aviators’ were at too great of a disadvantage to close it up.

Lafayette has their last home game Thursday against the Kokomo Jackrabbits. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
