Business, Baseball and Greater Lafayette

To Everyone in the Greater Lafayette Community:

As you may have already heard, the Lafayette Aviators, our city's Prospect League baseball team, is under new ownership and I am lucky enough to be a part of that group. Since the announcement, we have had an outpouring of support and excitement about the change, many wondering why in the world we would take this on, and fans curious about what the future holds. The 2017 season saw a major achievement with a Prospect League Championship, and we look forward to continuing that success with you in 2018 and beyond, both on and off the field.

For the Lafayette Aviators to be a sustaining part of the community, the business of the team has to be financially viable and the partnership of the owners has to be enduring. I can say with great confidence our ownership team has the qualities necessary for success. Personally, Brent Gutwein and I have been business partners for more than ten years in a variety of ventures. We've partnered with fellow Purdue University graduate, Bill Davidson, as well as his business partner Matt Perry. Each of Bill and Matt have more than 25 years of experience owning, operating, and serving as consultants to a variety of sport enterprises through their company National Sports Services. Further solidifying our partnership is an orthopedic surgeon, Sean Churchill, a baseball fanatic who is obtaining his Master’s in Business Administration in Sports Management from the University of Massachusetts in his spare time.

With the right team assembled, we can focus on the quality of the fan experience. The selection of a diligent business operations manager in Zach Chartrand and the hiring of an accomplished Head Coach in Will Arnold will ensure we continue to reproduce the success the team experienced in the 2017 season. Bill and Matt bring several years of experience managing minor league and summer collegiate sports teams, while Sean's sports management education coupled with his commitment to baseball is unmatched. And though the professional background of our ownership team ranges from real estate to law to medicine, we all have one thing in common: a true love for baseball. Our vision is to have a packed stadium every game with a fun, playful, and family-centric entertainment experience. We want the Lafayette Aviators to be an important piece of the community and a prized jewel of summer recreation.

We're not alone, either. The City of Lafayette, specifically Mayor Tony Roswarski and the Parks Department, along with our sponsors Franciscan Health, Mid-America Beverage, Horizon Bank, and Wabash National have provided us incredible support in our big plans for the future. Under our management, we'll continue to build a competitive and entertaining team of coaches, staff, and players. This season we'll see the addition of two Purdue University players on the roster: Central Catholic graduate, Tyler Powers, and McCutcheon alumnus, Braden Giroux.

Additionally, as members of this community and employees with children, we're always looking for ways to add quality family entertainment to our city. Our goal is to build a new, world-class Loeb Stadium, which is expected to open by the 2021 Lafayette Aviators season. It will contain amenities the entire family can enjoy, including an all you can eat area and a kid zone. The new Loeb Stadium will be modeled after the stadium American Structurepoint built for the Aviators’ rivals, the Kokomo Jackrabbits. Needless to say, their stadium is beautiful.  We hope this new development will not only add to the exciting atmosphere of the Lafayette Aviators, but will provide another attractive family-friendly resource to our wonderful city.

So, we'd like to invite you, the Greater Lafayette Community, to join us on Wednesday, May 30th, as we kick off our 2018 season (and the future of the Lafayette Aviators) against the Terre Haute Rex.

Thank you once again for your continued support. Words cannot express how proud and privileged we are to be part of this great city. Here's to many more memories and special moments to come.

Let's play ball,

Stuart Gutwein
