Hot Bats Give the Aviators their Second Consecutive Victory

LAFAYETTE, IN –

On a brisk night in Lafayette, the Aviators powered their way to their second consecutive victory and a 9-1 win over the Johnstown Mill Rats on the back of a 19-hit game. The Fly Boys led off the game with a run in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to Jarrett Bickel driving in Mike Snyder after hitting his third triple of the season. 

Lafayette would add two more runs in the third and fourth inning. Jarrett Bickel would drive in Mike Snyder with the second triple of the game, sixth of the season before scoring on an RBI from Brandon Daniels. In the fourth inning, Trevor Johnson hit a two-RBI double to right-center to make it a 5-1 ballgame. The Mill Rats scored one run in between the Aviators’ four when Pete Capobianco off a groundout from Carlo IV.

The Aviators would continue their hitting and scoring success with two insurance runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. Snyder and Bickel scored unearned runs in the seventh, while Eli Tencza and Johnson both scored in the 8th. 

Before all was said and done, the Mill Rats would string together two runs in the top of the ninth after relief pitcher, Jackson Dannelley walked two batters and surrendered two hits to load the bases. The Aviators halted the comeback by turning the fifth double play of the season. 

While the Aviators kept their bats hot with a total of 19 hits in eight innings, starting pitcher, Gyeongju Kim recorded his first win in his second appearance for the team. Kim pitched five innings while allowing three hits, one run, and nine strikeouts bringing his season total to 16 punch outs. 

The Fly Boys’ are back in action tomorrow night when they will welcome the Danville Dans back for a 7:00 p.m. EST first pitch. The Aviators’ only two losses have come to the Dans, both by 5-2 decisions.
