Hot Bats Propel Aviator Victory

LAFAYETTE, IN – The offense could do no wrong for Lafayette as they defeated the Terre Haute Rex 10-1 on Thursday night. The game began with three consecutive innings of scoring with an exclamation point four-run inning in the third. Pitching held up strong and allowed no momentum to be seized in the opposing dugout.

Lafayette opened the game with an RBI single from Mike Snyder, who celebrated his birthday with a win, driving in Peyton Henry. Two more runs would score in the second when Kuhns and Harris came jogging into home plate thanks to an RBI double from Mike Koszewksi. The third inning is when things hit a high. Justin Bogard led off the inning with a triple and scored after a wild pitch sent him home. Kuhns and Harris would score their second runs in two innings when Koszewski again drove them in, this time with an RBI single, bringing the score to a whopping 7-0.

Terre Haute was able to steal a big play in the fourth inning when Boxer hit a lead-off double and scored after being driven in by Beck. This was the only run of the night for Terre Haute. Strong pitching from Lafayette held the Rex at bay. Starting pitcher, Jackson Dannelley, got his fourth win of the year (4-0-1). And relief pitcher, Judson Schaper, pitched an incredible three innings where he allowed one hit and fanned five hitters in 10 batters faced.

The final nail in the coffin came in the eighth inning when Lafayette scored three runs where Kuhns, Harris, and Koszewski all scored thanks to an RBI from Koszewski and a two-RBI double from Peyton Henry. The Fly Boys could not soar higher, as they had 10 hits to match their 10 runs. Aviator pitchers also combined for 10 punchouts.

Lafayette (25-32) is back in action tomorrow at Illinois Valley to take on the Pistol Shrimp in the final road game of the season. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. EST and can be streamed on Prospect League TV.
